Visiting Café Café for the first time, I noticed a sign, inviting me to try “something different.” One of the suggestions was a tea called Pai Mu Tan, by T2.

Twinings Extra Strong English Breakfast
I had some Twinings Extra Strong English Breakfast tea – part of their new range of English Breakfast. I decided to compare it with the “normal” English breakfast to see what the difference was.
Jolon Pu’er Tea
I bought this tea a long time ago from a tea shop which is, sadly, now shut.
Jolon Pu’er Tea originates from the Yunnan province in China. the label on the box says that the longer the product is stored, the thicker the aroma arises – whatever that means.
As I said I’ve had the tea for a long time – it was produced over 5 years ago. sure enough the flavour is very pleasant. There’s no bitterness, even if the tea is left to infuse for a very long time.
This photo shows the fourth cup made from the same scoop of tea leaves. I can still taste the flavour of the tea, but something is missing, as compared with the first cup, which was delightful.
My conclusion is that Jolon Pu’er tea is a fantastic tea, but you shouldn’t try to push it beyond the third refill.

Indonesian Kaffir Lime Tea
Kaffir limes are a citrus fruit found in tropical parts of Asia. The rind is green and bumpy, and is used in Thai and Lao cooking. The juice is very sour, and not used in foods.
This Kaffir Lime Tea from Tong Tji comes from Indonesia, and tastes really really nice. I let the bag steep for about 3 minutes. The flavour of the citrus zest is perfectly balanced with the tea. Don’t worry, they seem to have not added the sour sour juice of the Kaffir lime!
Gyokuro Pine Breeze
A friend of mine tried this tea. Gyokuro Pine Breeze is made by Lupicia. They’re Japanese company with retail outlets – or franchisees, I’m not sure which – in a number of countries.
It tastes like a good ‘detox’ tea, especially if you take it strong. The flavour is slightly grassy, like fresh green tea sometimes is.
Twinings New Range In Store
Twinings Lemon And Ginger
Twinings has tried to make a very gentle tea here – not too gingery, not too lemony.
Twinings New English Breakfast Teas
This just arrived in the mail. When I opened it, I found five packets of Twinings English Breakfast inside – but with a difference! One of them is marked “Extra Strong,” another “Honey And Vanilla”.
Flavoured English Breakfast Tea!
According to the packaging, there’s also a decaffeinated version, but they didn’t include one for me.
Fresh Ginger Tea
This tea is just ginger. However, it’s not too strong – and if you have any taste for ginger at all, it’s quite pleasant.
